Brent P. Copenhaver, a native of Charleston, West Virginia and a 1987 graduate of the WVU College of Law, has over 25 years of litigation and trial experience in defending physicians, nurses, hospitals and nursing homes in medical malpractice and health care negligence claims and lawsuits in West Virginia and Ohio, with extensive first chair trial experience.

Additionally, Brent served as Deputy General Counsel for Health Sciences for West Virginia University from 2014 to 2018, during which he worked directly and closely with the University’s senior leadership at the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center and provided a wide range of legal services to meet the needs of the five schools that comprise the WVU Health Sciences Center in a wide range of practice areas, including: medical malpractice litigation management; risk management and credentialing issues; peer review issues; healthcare compliance and regulation matters; human resource and employment issues; conflicts of interest and conflicts of commitment; contractual issues; educational seminars to faculty, residents and medical students; involvement with Title IX investigations of retaliation, hostile work environment and discrimination claims; all matters involving the WVU Office of Graduate Medical Education; and employment, academic and professionalism issues involving faculty, residents and students of the West Virginia University School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy and School of Public Health.
